Equal Rights and Opportunities

Remote as this goal may sometimes seem, we must strive for nothing less than a society that does not discriminate based upon race, gender, ethnicity, religion, or sexual identity.

To that end, the policies I support include:

Reparations for the descendants of slaves and Native Americans. Much as I love Woody Guthrie’s “This land is your land,” I realize how untrue it rings for some Americans. I support  H.R.40, the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act filed by Representative Sheila Jackson Lee.

The passage of an Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Abolition of the death penalty. In addition to the racial and economic disparities in its application, it is a policy of a brutal, inhumane past. The European Union requires its abolition for member states. So should the United States of America.

Ending the “war on drugs” and the accompanying mass incarceration and school-to-jail pipeline.
